Hey there. Okay so, I have always had an interest in making jewelery. I have so many ideas and I would like to know how I can start. I specifically like vintage looking jewelery, mostly necklaces and bracelets. Is there some sort of class I can take or kit I have to buy? How did you get your start. thanks.

ps. i live in the L.A . area.
I guess I should be a little more specific, Im not looking into making simple little beaded jewelry. I simple want to make some pieces for myself. I mainly like the type of jewelry Lucky Brand makes and I would want to lean toward making pieces like that. Thanks again.
yea im definitely not into following trends or anything, actually i completely dont care. and im not interested in selling haha. Its just something i have always wanted to try and make things for me and some friends maybe haha. thanks

Going to bead shops will help you, mainly because they don’t just sell beads. Many bead shops sell lots of other stuff too. Sometimes you can find these things on-line, but you run the risk of it not being exactly what you want.

Craft stores are also someplace to check out, mainly because they have a huge selection of stuff, and chances are good if they don’t have it, they’ll know where to find it. There really isn’t a kit for what you’re looking for, you just have to shop around and pick out things you like.

You don’t really need to take classes on making something you think is beautiful. Sometimes classes will actually hurt your creative process, unless you’re planning on selling the pieces you make. That’s when a class or two would probably a good idea to take. The teachers will show you the finer points of jewelry making, and finding out what is selling right now.
